Mini-me electric sports cars

While a top of the range sports car might be a pipedream for most people, there is a way around it.  If you’re willing to downsize quite a bit, you could always buy an electric sports car for your child.
Top of the tots range is the Ferrari 360 Spider 12V electric, which retails at about £1,000.  It has a top speed of 5 mph, and is suitable for children under the age of six.  Personalised number plates are thrown in for free. It could also be a good investment for the future. There have only been a few of these made, so their collectors’ value will be huge one day.
And it’s not just sports cars; you can get kids’ electric cars to suit all tastes – classic cars, jeeps, Disney favourites, tractors and diggers.  There are also planes, but don’t worry, your little one won’t be taking off anywhere – the planes are pedal powered.
Meanwhile, in the real world, electric sports cars do exist, but they’re not very practical. Most are concept cars, built to show the potential of electric vehicles.  There are production electric sports cars, but they have their limits. One of the world’s fastest low emission cars is The Tesla Roadster. It produces zero emissions and gets from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds, which is great, but doesn’t mean much when it has a full-charge range of only 245 miles.  And it takes 6 hours to charge it fully again.
If you’re looking for a car that produces lower emissions, you might go for a more practical alternative. Hybrid cars offer the best of both worlds – with better fuel efficiency and lower emissions, and there are sports models, too. The Honda CR-Z is just one of the racier models available from Honda UK.
